OCEAN CITY- A variety of factors likely kept the total fish count down during the annual Flounder Frenzy fishing tournament last weekend, but it certainly wasn’t a lack of effort.
The annual tournament, hosted jointly by the Ocean Pines Anglers Club and the Atlantic Coast chapter of the MSSA, was held last weekend in and around the coastal bays with 32 anglers participating. Windy conditions made the seas difficult and the total number of flounder caught was low. Angler Tom Breen, fishing with Captain Budd Heim, took first place with a 22-inch plus flounder, while Ann Shelly, fishing with Captain Dick Shelly, took second with a 17-inch plus flounder.
No one was able to qualify with a third-place keeper. Event organizers said a variety of factors, including the mild winter, the Inlet dredging and the severe loss of eel grass in the coastal bays.
