Pink-Clad Seahawks Fall to Bennett, 4-0

10/10/2008 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Breaking out the new pink jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month did not bring Stephen Decatur's men's varsity soccer team much look this week as the Seahawks fell to visiting Bennett, 4-0.

Stephen Decatur's boys' varsity and junior varsity soccer teams sported the pink jerseys during a double-header with Bennett at home on Monday and varsity coach Jamie Greenwood even went with bleached blond hair in the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the changes had little effect on the outcome.

In the varsity game, the two teams played a scoreless first half in a hard fought game that featured great opportunities for both sides. However, in the second half, Bennett came out quickly to score two goals to take a 2-0 lead with a lot of time left. Decatur had a lot of great scoring chances in the second half, but could not break through. Meanwhile, Bennett added a third goal with 7:17 left in the game to extend the lead to 3-0 and scored again late to finish the contest at 4-0.
