12/03/2010 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team had an up-and-down week last week, falling to visiting Holly Grove, 50-39, after winning its first two games of the season.

The Mallards fell to Holly Grove, 50-39, last Wednesday for their first loss of the season after two impressive wins. Ryan Nally scored 14 points for Worcester in the loss, while Andrew Ternahan pitched in 11 points. The loss was the first of the year for the Mallards after two wins to start the season.

After thrashing Wye River Upper School, 44-7, in the season opener, the Mallards continued their winning ways against ESIAC rival Gunston last Friday. Worcester led by just two points at the half, but went on a 19-5 run in the second half to pull away from the Herons. Nally led Worcester with 17 points, while Ben Mumford scored 11, Harrison Brennan scored 10 and Andrew Ternahan pitched in nine points.

Worcester faces Greenwood Mennonite on the road this afternoon and will face Delmar on the road next Tuesday. The next home game will be a rematch with Gunston set for next Wednesday at home.
