Accident Knocks Power Out Downtown

5/23/2008 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

OCEAN CITY- A single-vehicle accident last Sunday morning at 6th Street and Baltimore Ave. knocked out power for a large portion of the south end of the resort for over six hours.

Around 10:22 a.m. last Sunday, a vehicle traveling northbound on Baltimore Ave. in a far right lane left the roadway and collided first with a street sign, then a light pole and finally a telephone pole. The driver, John Hamilton, 21, of Stevensville, Md., later told police he was fatigued because of lack of sleep and the medication he was on.

The accident knocked out power in the downtown area from 5th Street south for several hours. The power company was later able to restore power to some of the effected area, but it remained off in a large portion of the downtown area until about 5 p.m. Hamilton was charged with negligent driving.
