Duker Wins State High Jump Title

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track team members excelled in the state Class 3A meet this week in Prince George’s County including a state championship in the high jump for sophomore Lucas Duker.

Four Seahawks qualified in three different individual field events at the 3A-East region meet last week and earned spots in the state championship meet at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex on Tuesday. Duker, who won the high jump title at the regional meet last week repeated the performance on Tuesday and won the state 3A championship as just a sophomore. Duker jumped an even six feet to win the title and top his 5’9” jump in the regional meet.

Decatur sent two female pole vaulters to the state championship meet on Tuesday and each placed in the event. Katie Collins, who finished second in the regional meet came in third in the state championship meet with a vault of 7’10”. Kacie Moore, who finished third at regionals came in eighth at the state meet on Tuesday. Finally, Patrick Phillips, who finished third at regionals, came in seventh in the state meet on Tuesday.
