Decatur Falls in Bayside Title Game

5/11/2007 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN - Stephen Decatur's varsity baseball team fell to
Easton, 9-3, in the Bayside Conference championship on Wednesday night at
Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury.

The Seahawks, who finished the regular season with an
impressive 16-2 record, won the Bayside South division while Easton, with an
identical record, won the Bayside North Division. Despite the great regular
season record, Decatur needed to beat Worcester County rival Snow Hill on
Tuesday to advance to the championship game, and did so in dramatic fashion,
coming from behind after spotting the Eagles four runs in the first inning to
win 8-5.

The win over Snow Hill propelled the Seahawks in the
Bayside title game at Shorebirds Stadium on Wednesday night, but it was not
meant to be and Decatur lost 9-3. The loss did not affect the Seahawks' seeding
in the state tournament, which gets underway on Monday. Decatur will be the
number-three seed in the Class 2A-East regional, while Easton will be the top
seed.
