-- The National Society of High School Scholars (HSHSS) has announced that Stephen Decatur High School student Cordonte Ayres of Berlin has been selected for membership. The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. Membership entitles students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items and publicity honors.

-- Named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., for winter quarter 2008 were Kathryn Angela Cassels of Berlin and Katherine Garnett Trumpower of Berlin.

-- Maddison Kathleen Poloney of Ocean City  graduated from Gettysburg College with a bachelor's degree.

-- Justin Y. Adkins of Bishopville received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and with a minor in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Military Institute.

-- Jacob Andrew Fiedler of Berlin was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Flagler College.

-- Taylor Kern, a rising senior at Worcester Preparatory School, has completed the requirements for becoming an Eagle Scout. For his Eagle project, Kern landscaped the areas around the Town of Dagsboro signs on Route 113 in Delaware.

-- Worcester Prep sixth grade student Christopher Choy was recently honored at the Smyrna Opera House during a statewide awards ceremony held by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). Choy was invited to this awards ceremony sponsored by CTY based on his exceptional performance on a rigorous, above-grade-level test given to second through eighth grade Talent Search participants. Second through sixth graders took the SCAT, an above-level test scaled for younger students. Although he did an excellent job (top 10-15 percent) on the entire test, he was one of the highest scoring students in the spatial battery.
