Junior Dolphins Get in Win Column

BERLIN- The Berlin Dolphins Juniors team of the Salvation Army League got in the win column last week with a 21-13 win over county rival Snow Hill.

The Dolphins Juniors team, ages 11-13, had taken a couple of tough losses early in the season, but beat the Eagles, 21-13, for their first win. The game started rough for the Dolphins, who fumbled the opening kick-off and watched Snow Hill march down the field for an early 6-0 lead. However, the Dolphins answered quickly, ending a long drive of their own with a two-yard keeper by quarterback Danny Beck. The Dolphins converted the extra point and took an early 7-6 lead.

Snow Hill responded quickly, however, marching straight down the field for a touchdown and a successful extra point to take a 13-7 lead. Again, Berlin had the answer, going on perhaps their best drive of the season, a 10-play drive punctuated by a five-yard TD run by Jared King to retake the lead at 14-13 going into halftime.

After the wild scoring barrage in the first half, the Berlin defense settled down and dominated the second half. The score remained 14-13 for much of the third quarter before the Berlin defense forced the issue. Berlin's Gus Esham forced a fumble on a quarterback sack, scooped up the ball and returned it deep into Snow Hill territory as the third quarter came to an end.

Early in the fourth quarter, Berlin's Andrew Borradale punched it in from five yards out to extend the Dolphins' lead to 21-13, a lead they would never relinquish the rest of the way
