Former Seahawk Named Conference Player of Week

3/19/2010 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Former Stephen Decatur softball standout Shae Nottingham is already making her mark at the next level at Washington College, collecting the Centennial Conference Player of the Week award last week as a freshman after leading the Shorewomen to a quick 4-0 start early in the season.

Nottingham, who plays both first base and outfield at Washington College as a freshmen this spring, went 8-14 during the four-game winning streak to start the season and also led her new team in hits with eight and doubles with three. Nottingham posted team highs in slugging percentage (.786), on-base percentage (.600) and tied for the team lead in total bases with 11.

In a 7-6 extra-inning win over Olivet on March 8, Nottingham drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the eighth with a double and came around to score the winning run two batters later. She also went 3-4 at the plate in the win over Olivet. Later the same day, Nottingham went 4-5 and drove in five runs in a win over Wheelock. She collected two multiple RBI hits during the contest. Both games were played in Fort Myers, Fla.

Nottingham was a three-time All-Bayside Conference player at Decatur and twice won the team's Most Valuable Player award and Coach's Award. She also won the defensive MVP award as a Seahawk. Her prowess on the softball field was matched by her accomplishments in the classroom. She was a an honor roll student at Decatur and a member of the National Honor Society.
