BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team remained unbeaten last weekend, cruising past visiting Queen Anne’s, 60-9, to improve to 7-0 heading into a big non-conference dual meet this weekend.
The Seahawks lost just two of 14 matches against Queen Anne’s at home last Friday and collected six pins along the way. Matt Meekins started the parade for Decatur with a technical fall win in the 112-pound match, while Cody Bush pinned his opponent at 119 to stake the Seahawks to an early 11-0 lead. Decatur went on to win the first eight matches to settle the issue once and for all.
In the 125-pound match, Alford Hardy won by decision, while Seth Goggin won by pin at 130. Nick McLoota won by pin at 135 to improve Decatur’s lead to 27-0, followed by a win by decision by Andrew Borradaile at 140, a pin by Curtis Snyder at 145, and a technical fall win by Johnny Soghomonian at 150.
After a loss at 160 by Mike Baglieri, Brandon Terlizz won by decision for Decatur at 171. Mike Meekins, wrestling way up at 215 pounds, pinned his opponent to extend the Seahawk lead to 51-9. Nick Craven won by pin at 285, and Nate Rosenblatt won by decision at 103 to complete the 60-9 rout by the Seahawks.
With the win, the Seahawks carry some momentum into this week’s Harford Tech Duals, featuring some of the top wrestling programs in the state. The meet takes place today and tomorrow in Harford County. The Seahawks are scheduled to face Rising Sun, Calvert Hall and John Carroll in preliminary matches today, with matches against Hereford, Curley, Harford Tech, DeMatha and John Carroll scheduled for Saturday.
