The Ocean City/Berlin Optimist Club announced its essay contest winners at a recent club dinner meeting. The topic was "How my education is the key to a successful future". The club winner was Halie Murray-Davis from Worcester Preparatory School. Skylar Mariani from Stephen Decatur won second place and Samantha Caresta of Stephen Decatur was third. A gift of $2,500 has been made by Jay and Mary Lynn Knerr, owners of The Kite Loft in Ocean City, to the capital campaign for the construction of a new athletic field house at Stephen Decatur High School’s Seahawk Stadium. Accepting the Kite Loft donation is Decatur Principal Lou Taylor. The fund raising campaign is a project of the SDHS Alumni Association. The Retired Nurses of Ocean Pines recently presented a check for $1,000 to Michael Franklin, president and CEO of Atlantic General Hospital, benefiting the James G. and Nancy Barrett Nursing Scholarship Program. The Retired Nurses of Ocean Pines have contributed a total of $3,000 to the nursing scholarship program since 2008.
