Robert Edward Faulkner

OCEAN CITY -- Robert Edward Faulkner, 78, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Coastal Hospice Hospital in Salisbury after a long battle with cancer.

He was born April 30, 1933 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late James S. Faulkner and Evelyn M. Winkleman-Faulkner.

Bob was raised in Washington, D.C. and enlisted in the Army where he served in Korea from 1952-1955. He received the Bronze Star for his service and bravery.

In 1994, Bob and his wife Joy retired and moved to Ocean City. He became an active member of the VFW Post 8296 and was elected Post Commander for four years. He later joined the American Legion Post 166 and was a very vital member until his illness prevented him from being there.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joy E. Faulkner; his daughters, Kristen E. Lilley, Lauren E. Padgett and Donna L. Faulkner; stepchildren Jimmy W. Firebaugh, Theresa L. Campani and Lawrence D. Firebaugh; grandchildren Michael B. Faulkner, Matthew B. Faulkner, Robert E. Padgett, Burke D. Mullins, Elizabeth L. Lilley and Brent M.W. Firebaugh; brother Donald Faulkner; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob or “Big B” (as he was fondly known) was greatly admired and loved by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed.

A memorial will be held Sunday, Aug. 13, 2011 from 1-4 p.m. at the American Legion Ocean City Post 166 at 23rd Street and Coastal Highway.

Donations may be made to the Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802 or the American Cancer Society.
