BERLIN- Former Worcester Prep soccer standout Martin Sanchez added to his growing resume recently when the Navy player was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament team.
Sanchez, the former Mallard now a sophomore at Navy, was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament team for his role in a conference semifinal match against American that ended in a 0-0 draw. Sanchez, who has become the defensive catalyst for Navy in his two years at the service academy, started all of his team’s 18 games this season. During his two-year career at Navy, Sanchez started in every game in which he has played, missing only one game because of injury.
As a freshman last year, Sanchez was named to the All-American team, the only representative from the Patriot League. Also last year, Sanchez was named to the Division I All-Mid-Atlantic team after his remarkable freshman year. He also collected Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors in just his second week at the service academy.
