BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team bowed out of the state Class 3A-2A South region tournament this week, falling to host Queen Anne’s, 14-9, to close out what was otherwise another successful season for the Seahawks.
When the brackets were released last week, the Decatur girls drew a number-two seed in the eastern sectional of the 3A-2A South region and a first-round bye. In the second round, the Seahawks drew another date with Bennett, the three-seed in the east sectional. Decatur had beaten Bennett twice during the regular season, including a 14-2 win back on March 26 and an 18-3 win on April 26.
Last Friday, it was more of the same for the Seahawks, who rolled past the Clippers, 18-7. Ashley Trice, Kayla Terlizzi, Erin Florek and Elizabeth Anderson each scored three goals in the win over Bennett, which set up another rematch with Queen Anne’s, the top seed in the eastern sectional. In their only other meeting with Queen Anne’s this season, the Seahawks lost, 11-3, on April 11.
Against the Buccaneers on Monday on the road, the Seahawks fell, 14-9, putting an end to their season. Trice scored three times and Terlizzi, Florek and Eileen Hayman each scored three goals.
