BERLIN- The third annual Stephen Decatur Summer Basketball Camp, hosted by a current and former boys’ varsity coach, is scheduled for June 18-21 at the Berlin high school.
Led by current varsity coach Mark Engle and former head varsity coach B.J. Johnson, the annual camp is open to boys and girls in grades 3-12 in the area. Themed “Take Your Game to the Next Level,” the camp will focus on fundamentals and individual instruction for the players along with team play, competitive games, contests and prizes.
The camp will be held each day from June 18-21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the sessions broken down into groups based on age and ability. For example, the camp for players in grades 3-8 will be held each day from 9 a.m. to noon, while the camp for kids in grades 9-12 will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The cost is a relatively low $70 per player and includes a camp T-shirt.
Both Engle and Johnson have vast coaching resumes in and around the Delmarva area. Engle became the head varsity coach at Decatur in 2010 and quickly put the Seahawk program back on the map with a string of successful seasons. Johnson was the head coach at Decatur from 1999 to 2003 and currently directs the junior varsity team. For more information, contact Engle at (302) 228-4278, or Johnson at (443) 373-9546.
