We Remember Those We Have Lost
SALISBURY -- Rebecca Wootten Phippin, 96, of Salisbury and Ocean City, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012.
Mrs. Phippin was born on Oct. 15, 1915 in Salisbury. She was the daughter of the late Alphonso Wootten and Gertrude Parsons Wootten.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Webster; granddaughter, Mary K. Webster; preceded in death by grandson, Michael Webster; and also survived by great-grandson, Andrew Webster and his wife, Amanda of Baltimore.
She is also survived by her son, David Phippin and his wife, Lorie; grandsons, Joshua and Jonathan Phippin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton R. “Jimmy” Phippin in 2008.
Rebecca attended Salisbury Teachers’ College and worked in her husband’s accounting firm. She was part owner of Montego Bay Sundries, dba, Daydreams and The Wharf Restaurant until the family sold these businesses. She was also one of the oldest members of Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury.
Funeral services were held at Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury and interment followed at Wicomico Memorial Park.

Richard Henry Sommers
BERLIN -- Richard Henry Sommers, 76, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.Born in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Jacob Sommers and Ida Pollack Sommers.
Mr. Sommers served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with distinction. He had worked as a postman and also for the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Sommers; three sons, David Sommers and his wife Lynn, Thomas Sommers and his wife Wendy and Mark Jantz and his wife Connie; a son-in-law, Mark Fitzurka; two daughters, Darlene Stewart and her husband Harold and Kim Lewis and her husband Eric; a brother, Jacob Sommers and his wife Flory; 28 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Fitzurka.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Ocean City. A viewing was held at the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment will be Friday, Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, Md.
John K. Whitney
OCEAN CITY -- John Kenneth Whitney, age 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at the Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Alvin and Gertrude Ward Whitney. He was a United States Army Veteran and had worked as a manager for Churchill Liquor Distributors in Arbutus, Md.He was a life member of the Ocean View VFW and member of the Ocean City Elks Post 2645.
Cremation followed his death. No formal services are planned. A donation in his memory may be made to St. Martha’s Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood St. Bethany Beach, Del. 19930.Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
