Bank Declares Dividend

BERLIN – Reese Cropper, Jr., chairman of Calvin B. Taylor Bankshares, Inc., recently announced that the Board of Directors declared a $1.30 per share special cash dividend to shareholders of record date Sept. 5. This special dividend was paid on Sept. 16.

“We are pleased to report that our company earnings, through mid-2008, continue to outperform that of our peers due to our conservative lending and investment philosophies. Our well funded capital account has become increasingly important to customers concerned about the safety and soundness of their deposits during these difficult economic times,” said Cropper.

Even with this cash payout of almost $4 million, Calvin B. Taylor Bankshares continues to maintain a capital account of approximately 20 percent of assets. The bank’s Tier 1 capital ratios are consistently four times the level considered to be adequately capitalized by banking regulators.

“We wish to remind our customers and stockholders that Taylor Bank is safe, sound, stable, and secure. We are proud of our bank’s performance during a period when many financial institutions, nationwide, are incurring significant loan losses and asset write-downs due to bad investments,” Cropper said.

Calvin B. Taylor Bankshares, Inc. is the parent company to Calvin B. Taylor Bank, headquartered in Berlin. The bank, with assets totaling $364 million as of June 30, operates through 10 branches located in Worcester County and Sussex County in Delaware.

OCEAN PINES – The Ocean Pines Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced its annual awards.

Business Of The Year goes to Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Adam Osborn and his team of employees for their success and community involvement. Since the restaurant opened in 2004, this team has volunteered for events that have generated a conservative estimate of $300,000 in fundraising for over 50 non-profit organizations.

The Citizen(s) Of The Year goes to the Kiwanis Club of Ocean Pines-Ocean City. It is a first for the chamber to name an organization as Citizen Of The Year, but it was an obvious choice, according to officials, because the Kiwanis Club has volunteered many hours of service to the community and generated numerous scholarships.
