OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department will host the annual “Lax’n at the Beach” lacrosse camp for boys next week with University of Maryland head coach Dave Cottle on board as camp director.

The camp opens on Monday and runs through Thursday with the action starting at 10 a.m. each day and running until 3 p.m. at Northside Park in Ocean City. The camp is open to boys ages 8-16, who will receive instruction and define their lacrosse skills including shooting, throwing, catching, scooping and cradling. Participants will also learn other techniques and strategies in scrimmage and game situations from Coach Cottle and his staff.

Cottle is widely recognized in the lacrosse community with the third highest winning percentage among active coaches in college lacrosse. During his many seasons at Maryland, at least 19 of his players have earned a total of 35 All-American selections, and getting Cottle to run the summer camp is a real feather in the cap for the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department.

“There is not a better candidate as camp director for this camp,” said OC Recreation Supervisor Lynda Brittingham. ‘I truly believe that the success of this camp has a lot to do with the fact that Cottle is the camp director. Who wouldn’t want to sign their kid up for a camp with a nationally recognized coach?”

While the idea of having Cottle as camp director may seem too good to be true for the Ocean City Recreation and Parks staff, the benefits of having a nationally recognized director is also a dream for the parents and the players as well. With enthusiasm gushing from the campers to the staff, it’s safe to say the success of the camp is guaranteed.

Meanwhile, a second lacrosse camp for girls is scheduled for later this month at Northside Park under the direction of another nationally known director, Jim Nestor, head coach of the Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team. Nester, in his fifth year at Salisbury, has led the Gulls to the Capital Athletic Conference title and the NCAA women’s tournament. The girls’ camp runs from July 20-24 also at Northside Park.
