PITTSVILLE — Maryland State Police reported Wednesday the chief of pediatrics at Peninsula Regional Medical Center was critically injured in a car accident on Route 50.
State police say Dr. Jose Alvarado’s sports car slammed into the rear of a disabled tractor-trailer on Route 50 near Pittsville. Alvarado has a popular practice in Salisbury and lives in Ocean City.
Alvarado has been a doctor in Salisbury since 1988 and has served as a pediatrician for thousands of lower shore families.
Alvarado was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was last listed in critical but stable condition. Numerous reports have commented on his condition, leading the family to issue an formal statement at 4:35 yesterday afternoon.
The statement read, “The family of Dr. Jose Alvarado is grateful for the overwhelming support and prayers from the entire Eastern Shore community. We would ask that the local media and blog owners respect our privacy during these difficult times.
:The family would like the community to know that the medical practitioners in Dr. Alvarado’s office will continue to care for all patients of Dr. Alvarado’s practice.
“Dr. Alvarado is currently listed in critical but stable condition at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.”
