Harriett Cropper

HEBRON – Harriet Cropper, 50, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Atlantic General Hospital.

Born in Washington, she was a daughter of the late Harry Haraway and Hazel Wooding Haraway.

She graduated from Randolph Tucker High School in Richmond in 1977, then attended Randolph Macon College and Wor-Wic Tech. She was employed with her husband at Phone Cards Delmarva Inc. and worked in the hotel business at Castle in the Sand.

She is survived by her husband, David Cropper. She is also survived by an aunt, Helen Garrett of Richmond, Va.; brother-in-law, Danny Cropper and his wife, Ella, of Seaford; a sister, Suzy Kushlak and husband, Frank, of Richmond; niece, Samantha Kushlak; several cousins; and a close friend, Sue Ann Hudson.

She was an avid Ravens fan, loved concerts, renaissance festivals, traveling around the country to football games with her husband, reading and shopping for herself and her friends. She was also a cat lover and leaves behind her dear friends, Merlin, Shade, Coal, Rebel and Sookie.

A memorial service will be held at Burbage Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. Friends may call an hour prior to the service.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Humane Society of Worcester County, PO Box 48, Berlin, Md. 21811.

Joseph H. Fisher

BERLIN – Joseph H. Fisher (“Joe”) 91, of Wilmington, Del., passed away on Oct. 12, 2009.

He was born near Berlin on Feb. 10, 1918. He was the fifth child of Robert J. Fisher and Nannie Gibbs Fisher.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the infantry and with the press censorship unit in the Public Relations Division of Supreme Headquarters (SHAEF) in London, Paris and Frankfurt.

He graduated from Beacom College and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Delaware for 15 years. From 1957 until 1986, he worked at the Wilmington office of Nemours Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Edith McGordy Fisher, who passed away on June 7, 2007. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Fisher and Linda Luchs of West Simsbury, Conn.; his daughter and son-in-law, Emily-May and James Richards of Atlanta, Ga.; his sisters, Nellie Withoff of Bemidji, Minn. and Ruth Hall of Bishopville, Md.; and one grandson, Joe Lee Fisher, and his wife, Samantha, of Vienna, Va.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

He and his family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Shipley Manor Health Center and his aides for the professionalism, care, love and compassion given to him in his last weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice at 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, Del. 19810; or the Memorial Fund of Aldersgate Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Del. 19803.

Clifford Raymond Brittingham

GOOSE CREEK, SC – Clifford Raymond Brittingham, 75, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at Unihealth Nursing Home in Moncks Corner, S.C.

Born in Berlin, he was the son  of the late Raymond Henry Brittingham and Anna Ellen Lewis Brittingham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Sarah Shores Brittingham, in 2002.

Brittingham had been a Pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy in Delmar, Washington, DC, Lanham and Carrollton, Md., Beckeley, W.Va., North Charleston, S.C., Raleigh, NC and Goose Creek, S.C.

He is survived by his sons, Clifford Raymond Brittingham, Jr. and his wife

Michele of Chattanooga, TN, Robert Hanson Brittingham and his wife Judy of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughters, Bonnie Brittingham Ashley of Bethany Beach, Del. and Melody Martin and her husband Robert of Goose Creek, SC; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Brittingham of Rock Hill, SC. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dwight Brittingham in 2009. There are seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hastings of Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Burbage Funeral Home.
