West OC Fire Destroys Garage

WEST OCEAN CITY – A fire at a residence in West Ocean City last Saturday afternoon drew a response from three fire companies and completely destroyed an attached garage with black smoke visible for miles.

Residents of the house on Lakeview Drive in the Ocean Reef community in West Ocean City reported the fire last Saturday afternoon around 3:18 p.m. Black smoke was visible throughout the West Ocean City area and even in Ocean City. First arriving crews reported heavy fire extending from the two-story attached garage where the homeowner reportedly worked on restoring classic cars. When firefighters arrived, the fire had extended to the dwelling although the occupants got out safe and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters from the Ocean City, Berlin and Ocean Pines fire companies responded and quickly brought the blaze under control, although witnesses reported a flare up once the fire was believed to be contained. Firefighters remained on scene for about three hours. The preliminary investigation revealed the fire originated in the attached garage.

The cause of the fire has been listed as undetermined and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call Worcester County Deputy Fire Marshal Rob Korb at 410-632-5666, ext. 4.
