BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team beat Delmarva Christian, 45-35, at home on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) tournament to advance to the finals.

The Mallards got off to a slow start and trailed early, 12-4, in the first quarter before getting on track. Worcester led by a single point at the half, but steadily pulled away from Delmarva Christian in the second half to secure the 45-35 win and advance to the conference championship game.

Andrew Ternahan led the Mallards with 25 points, or more than half of Worcester’s total output. Ternahan made four three-pointers and added six steals, two rebounds and forced a turnover. Senior Alex Maccari added seven points, five of which came on clutch free throws down the stretch with the game on the line. Maccari went 5-5 from the line late in the game.

The win improved Worcester’s season record to 9-7 and earned the Mallards a spot in the conference title game this afternoon where they will face old nemesis Salisbury School. The Mallards lost to Salisbury in their two previous meetings this season, falling to the Dragons 51-34 in December and 53-34 in January.
