Mallards Rout Tower Hill, 13-3

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team remained unbeaten last week, thrashing traditional Delaware powerhouse Tower Hill, 13-3, on the road last Thursday to improve to 6-0.

The Mallards have taken on all comers this season thus far and have remained unbeaten. In late March, Worcester edged Delaware power Salesianum, 9-8, in a tight contest, but the 13-3 win over Tower Hill at Wesley College last Thursday was even more impressive. In six games, the Mallards have outscored their opponents 74-18. Included in the early season run is a 15-1 win over Salisbury School, a 13-4 win over Lafayette from St. Louis, an 11-2 win over another Delaware power St. Andrew’s and a 16-0 rout of Delmarva Christian.

While Worcester has taken care of some tough early season opponents, the level of competition will get ratcheted up in the second half of the season. The Mallards played old rival Saints Peter and Paul on the road yesterday in a game played too late to be included in this edition. Tomorrow, Worcester plays host to its own invitational tournament, which features some tough regional teams.

Worcester will play Columbia from New Jersey in its opener, while Harborfields of Long Island will play St. Mary’s Ryken of Southern Maryland in the first round. The opening games will go on simultaneously starting at 10 a.m. with the championship and consolation games scheduled for 1 p.m.
