Seahawks Cruise Past River Hill, 3-0

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team beat visiting River Hill, 3-0, on Tuesday to advance in the state Class 3A-East region tournament.

The Seahawks, fresh off their first Bayside Conference title in 10 years, turned in a workman-like effort in the second round of the 3A-East region tournament on Tuesday, dispatching River Hill, 3-0, to advance to the semifinals. Decatur entered the state regional tournament as the top seed in the 3A-East region after a near-perfect regular season that culminated with a Bayside Conference championship last week.

The Seahawks were rewarded with a top-seed in the 3A-East region. After the win on Tuesday, the Seahawks will stay home for the region semifinals this afternoon where they will host fourth-seeded Centennial, which took out number-five Wilde Lake to advance.

On the other side of the bracket, 10th-seeded Mount Hebron took out second-seeded Reservoir in a big upset, while another Bayside Conference school, James M. Bennett, beat six-seeded Hammond, 4-1, on Tuesday to advance. Depending on the outcomes in the semifinals, Decatur appears to be on a collision course with Bennett for the region championship. Bennett was the only team to beat the Seahawks this year with an upset win in the regular season finale.
