Decatur Cagers Prep for States

BERLIN- After closing out the regular season with losses to Parkside, the Stephen Decatur boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams learned when, where and who they will be playing when the state regional tournaments get underway this weekend.

The Decatur boys’ lost to Parkside, 55-42, last Thursday in the regular season finale as Shae Farmer scored 17 points and Josh King added 11. With the loss, the Seahawks closed out the regular season with a 10-13 mark. When the brackets for the state Class 3A-East region tournaments were released on Sunday, the Seahawks drew a number-12 seed and will face fifth-seeded Northeast on the road tonight. The winner will face number-4 Atholton in the second round.

Also in the 3A-East region bracket is James M. Bennett, which drew a six-seed. Bennett will face 11-seed Hammond and the winner will play third-seeded Annapolis in the second round. In the 2A-East region’s District 8 sectional, Queen Anne’s (1) and Easton (2) earned first-round byes. Wicomico (4) will face North Caroline (5), while Parkside (6) will face Kent Island (3) in first-round action this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Decatur girls also lost to Parkside, 59-43, in their regular season finale last Thursday to finish at 11-11. The Decatur girls drew a number-5 seed when the 3A-East region brackets were released this week and will face 12-seed Mt. Hebron in the first round. The winner will take on fourth-seeded Annapolis in the second round.

In the 2A-East regional tournament, Kent Island (1) and Queen Anne’s (2) earned first-round byes in the District 8 sectional. In the first round, Wicomico (4) will face Easton (5), while North Caroline (3) will face Parkside (6).
