Fager’s Island Surf Swap, Paddle Board Race June 3

OCEAN CITY — Paddle board and surf enthusiasts will not want to miss the Fager’s Island Surf Swap and Paddle Board Race Sunday, June 3 at Fager’s Island Restaurant on 60th Street and the bay.

Anyone who would like to sell their used surf, kayak or paddle boards and equipment are encouraged to bring their wares to sell, for free, to this annual swap meet. Several surf shops and watersport related businesses will be participating in this event as well.

This year the surf swap will include paddle board competitions for all levels of standup paddle boarders (SUP), throughout the day.

The “Surf Swap Challenge” will begin at 9 a.m. with a five-mile elite race and 2.5-mile recreational race. These races are open to any paddle board owner and there will be prizes awarded to the top three finishers.

Then the afternoon will be a fun-filled paddle board family event with equipment provided by sponsor OC SUP and Fitness. Beginning at 1 p.m., there will be a free race for children 15 and under. First come first serve and they must be accompanied by an adult.

Then at 2 p.m. the co-ed team of fun relay races will start. This will be an easy quarter-mile race open to anyone who wants to have fun and contribute to the Maryland Coastal Bays Program. Teams will be placed in heats with a maximum of six teams per heat. Registration begins at noon for the afternoon races.

The race course will be decided on race day based on current wind conditions to make it ideal for racers. Weather pending, it will be a flat water race with buoy turns. Race entries include goodie bag, food and drink and advanced online registration encouraged at http://www.evenbrite.com/event/3244581631.

The race event is open to anyone 21 years or older and is formatted for a team of two. So bring your buddy, other half, brother or sister, mom or dad and celebrate the beginning of a summer and support the coastal bay guardians.

To add to the festivities, Burley Oak, Corona Light and EVO Brewery, co-sponsoring the event along with Fager’s Island and OC SUP & Fitness, will be offering specials and new brand introductions. Hot Sauce Sandwich will be performing on the deck beginning at 4 p.m.

OC SUP & Fitness offers lessons, rentals, fitness classes and excursions out of Fager’s Island throughout the year.
